Thamoda Geegamage is a graduate of the University of Moratuwa and holds a B.A. (Hons) in Design, specializing in Fashion and Lifestyle Design. Having experience working with sustainable brands and participating in programs like the Responsible Fashion Hackathan (organized by the Responsible Fashion Movement), sustainable fashion is a core principle of Thamoda’s brand TAOA. For her debut collection, Thamoda uses Sri Lankan motifs and craft elements which are abstract depictions of natural forms by ancient artisans. The colors and visual forms are unified with the Broderie Anglaise technique, a remnant of Portuguese and British colonial influence on the island between the 16th to 19th century. The silhouettes are minimal yet modern and play with traditional Sri Lankan clothing, while focusing on comfort and ease.
