Catherine Rawson is a British designer based in Galle. First inspired to sew by her grandmother, Catherine went on to study fine art, photography and eventually fashion design at Central Saint Martins College in London. In 2006, Catherine visited Sri Lanka on holiday and five years later, ‘The Old Railway’ studio and clothing shop opened its doors on the island.
The Old Railway soon grew into a fashion label showing regularly at Colombo Fashion Week. Sustainability in the brand’s daily practice naturally evolved from day one, when Catherine discovered her main source of fabric: high quality offcuts from garment factories. Evolving into one of Sri Lanka’s ‘go-to’ brands for contemporary style, The Old Railway creates effortlessly stylish collections focusing on quality, locally sourced fabric, and ethically-sound production.
